Who We Are

The Medical Women’s Society of NSW (MWS NSW), a not for profit organisation, is a voice for medical women advocating for the improvement of the health and welfare of all persons, especially women and children in the Australian community.

MWS NSW is a member of the Australian Federation of Medical Women, which is affiliated with Medical Women’s International Association (MWIA).

Peak Body

For 99 years, Medical Women’s Society NSW has been the peak representative body for medical women (including students!) in New South Wales.

We provide community, networking, career development and advocacy opportunities for thousands of medical women across the state.

Our History

MWS NSW was established in 1921, with Australia’s first medical women’s society (VMWS) being formed in 1896.

Australian Federation of Medical Women (AFMW)

MWS NSA members are automatically members of the Australian Federation of Medical Women and Medical Women's International Association.

We are GP’s, specialists and registrars working in hospitals, private practice and in administration.

We have members on multiple national Women’s lobby groups, particularly in relationship to women’s health.
